TYPEFREE PRIVACY POLICY
Effective date: October 10, 2026
Typefree is made by OFFLN, a one-person studio. This policy covers the Typefree iPhone app and its keyboard extension.
The short version
We never receive what you type or say. There are no OFFLN accounts, no OFFLN servers, and no advertising SDKs in the app. Typing, autocorrect, your personal dictionary and dictation all run on your device.
Usage and performance reports are on by default, and you can turn them off. The other features that use the network are off until you turn them on. They are described below.
What stays on your device
Everything the keyboard learns about your typing — your personal dictionary, your correction history, dictation transcripts and typing patterns — is stored on your iPhone, in an app group shared only between the Typefree app and its keyboard.
Dictation audio is captured only during a voice session you start, is transcribed by speech-recognition models running on your iPhone, and is never uploaded. The optional typing analysis reads your own on-device correction history and produces its report on your device — unless you choose your own AI provider as the analysis model, in which case the examples it reads are sent to that provider.
Passwords and other sensitive fields are never logged, learned from, or stored. In secure text fields the keyboard disables dictation and prediction entirely and drops the data at capture rather than at save.
What we collect
Apple's privacy rules define "collect" as transmitting data off the device. By that definition, Typefree collects the usage and performance reports described below and, if you turn that tab on, your GIF and sticker search words. None of it is linked to your identity or used for tracking. The app's privacy manifest declares:
The analytics types are the usage and performance reports, sent to PostHog. Search history is your GIF and sticker search words, sent to GIPHY so it can answer, and only when you switch that tab on.
Typefree does not track you across apps or websites and does not use data for advertising.
Usage and performance reports
On by default. To turn them off, open the Typefree app and switch off Share usage and performance in Settings → Privacy & data. Typing and dictation work the same either way.
Only the Typefree app sends reports, to PostHog, an analytics service, which stores them on US servers. Reports are counts and rounded timings: app opens and closes, setup steps reached, tabs opened, your first successful dictation, subscription changes, voice startup times and fixed failure codes.
The keyboard makes no network request for reports. With Full Access on, it only adds to one counter of keyboard appearances, kept in the app group it shares with the Typefree app. The app sends that count the next time you open it.
Reports carry no user, device or session identifier. They never include what you type or say, recordings, clipboard contents, contacts, location, search words, or which apps you type in.
Turning reports off cancels delivery and clears any counts not yet sent. Reports PostHog has already received are not deleted.
Third parties, and when they hear from you
PostHog (usage and performance reports) — on by default. The Typefree app sends the reports described above to PostHog's US service. You can turn them off in Settings → Privacy & data.
Hugging Face and GitHub (model downloads). When you enable dictation or an on-device rewrite model, Typefree downloads the model files from Hugging Face or from GitHub Releases, depending on the model. The request asks for files; it carries nothing about you beyond what any download requires, such as your IP address.
GIPHY (GIF and sticker search) — off by default. If you turn on the GIF and sticker tabs, the words you search and the category you tap are sent to GIPHY, which may retain them under its own privacy policy. No text from the app you are typing in is sent, and no account or stable identifier is attached.
An AI provider you configure — off by default. Typefree can route four things to an AI provider using your own endpoint and key: dictation styling, the personal rewrite pass, Rewrite and Fix typos on typed text, and the typing-analysis report, which sends recent examples of what you typed and what it was corrected to. Nothing is sent until you add that connection and allow the individual feature; then the text for that one request goes to your provider and is handled under your agreement with them, not with us. If you sign in to a ChatGPT account, that account is yours with OpenAI, under their terms.
Apple. Typefree Pro will be sold through Apple's in-app purchase system when the App Store release ships. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether a subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
Retention and deletion
Your typing and dictation data is stored on your device, so deleting it is up to you and takes effect immediately. The app can clear your typing history, personal dictionary, dictation transcripts and downloaded models from its settings. Deleting the Typefree app removes all of it, including the shared app group.
Turning usage and performance reports off clears counts not yet sent, but reports PostHog has already received are not deleted. Data that reached GIPHY or an AI provider you configured is retained under that company's policy, and any request to delete it goes to them.
Turning the network features off again
Each network feature can be switched off in the Typefree app at any time: turn off Share usage and performance in Settings → Privacy & data, turn off the GIF and sticker tabs, remove an AI connection or withdraw a feature's permission, and delete downloaded models. Switching one off stops any further requests at once.
You can also revoke the keyboard's Full Access in iOS Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards. Typing and corrections keep working without it.
Children
Typefree is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
